Verizon iPhone Preorders Already Sold Out

It's deja vu all over again. With a long history of product shortages underlying the launch of new and updated Apple products, Verizon iPhone preorders have already officially sold out. Not too shabby, given that preorders commenced fewer than twenty-four hours ago at 3:00 a.m. EST.

Naturally, some are using this situation - as though we didn't see it coming - to suggest that Verizon and, to a large degree, Apple are unprepared for the groundswell of iPhone interest palpable among 94 million US Verizon customers. But before anyone suspects for too long that Verizon iPhone anarchy will reign, let's keep in mind that AT&T had a similar experience when the iPhone 4 was made available for preorder last year. This sort of thing simply happens and largely isn't even newsworthy - but you would be hard pressed to tell from the glut of mainstream media attention the "first day sell out" is already generating.

Nicely coinciding with the aforementioned product shortage is a snazzy new Verizon commercial making the iPhone 4 look all sexy in it's new home. So while Verizon customers may encounter some delay in getting their hands on the long-awaited 4th generation touchscreen iPhone, the assembly lines are cranking out the product as we speak. And there's no time to spare. Beginning at 7:00 a.m. local time on Thursday, February 10th, the Verizon iPhone 4 will be available to all qualified customers at Apple’s retail stores and more than 2,000 Verizon Wireless Communication Stores across the US
